“Calculating the life cycle saving of the product shows an investment that pays off”

The thermal efficiency reduces the impact of heating and cooling emissions on our environment. Every component contributes with its specific advantage.

THE PRODUCT 💚

High performance composite windows contribute to sustainability naturally by improving the efficiency of a home. High thermal performance is at the core of the Aliclad concept and when coupled with other design principles of a new build they can greatly reduce the requirements for heating and cooling. With U-Values as low as 1.7, the window suite can outperform the performance of a standard brick veneer wall whilst also allowing light, passive heat gain as well as ventilation.

“Comparative service life assessment of window systems” A 2007 Study commissioned by the Australian Government found Aluminium skinned timber windows (composite products) had the longest product life cycle, twice that of a uPVC window and the lowest embodied Co2 (40% lower than that of a Timber only window) during a life cycle assessment.

Australian made is a concept that flows through to the majority of components in this uniquely designed Australian suite. All major input materials are sourced locally, reducing the environmental impact of the importation of overseas components. Victorian Ash hardwood is sustainable, and locally sourced, certified to AFS and PEFC standards. Glass is manufactured here locally in Victoria and assembled into high-performance IGUs, and all the bespoke Miglas aluminium profiles are extruded in Angaston, South Australia.

THE PRODUCTION PROCESS ♻️

Sustainability is ingrained in every phase of the Aliclad production process. The composite nature of the Aliclad system allows for more efficient optimisation of timber around visual defects as they can be concealed in the product - this is not possible in a full timber system. Larger offcuts are re-purposed through a lamination and finger jointing process to restart the production whereas smaller offcuts are utilised for timber plugs, dowels, and infill pieces which virtually eliminates all timber waste.

High precision CNC machinery minimises waste associated with manual production and aluminium offcuts are collected and recycled within Australia to be re-purposed.

We are working closely with our suppliers to be able to offer post-consumer recycled aluminium - as standard - for all our extrusions in the coming years as the demand for green building rapidly expands.

Each work station has soft plastic recycling, cardboard recycling, timber recycling, and aluminium recycling collection bins to ensure minimal landfill is generated throughout the production process.

BIO-FUEL DELIVERY OPTION 🍃

A unique holistic delivery system developed by Miglas allows Australia wide delivery and on-site handling of all window sizes. This means windows are able to be taken straight from the truck to the opening with glass suction equipment and no manual handling.

Miglas opted for the Scania due to their flexibility to work with the desired goals of our new delivery method and is also the only truck on the market today backed by a full manufacturers warranty to run 100% Bio-diesel.

Biodiesel is a clean non-toxic, locally produced, alternative to traditional petroleum diesel and results in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, particulates, hydrocarbons and other toxic emissions.
The National Greenhouse Accounts states that one litre of biodiesel can reduce net emissions of CO2 by over 95%, so for every litre of biodiesel consumed, it can save approximately 2.5kg of CO2.

This locally produced fuel is now an optional extra for customers to select on their deliveries, allows a significant reduction to the entire carbon footprint of a project.

SOLAR ENERGY

In Late 2016, Miglas Windows commissioned the installation of a 100kW AC Australian Made photo-voltaic system. Tindo Solar as the only Australian made system was selected as a perfect fit.

Compared to Traditional “DC” Solar Power systems, the AC micro-inverters allow each panel to produce their best yield independent of each other panel.

The 384 panels and micro-inverters cover approximately 50% of the current factory roof space and offset over 50% of total factory consumption.

Unlike residential solar power systems where the majority of power is fed directly back into the grid commercial solar is utilised as it’s produced. This provides a direct offset and a better yield.

Future development plans for battery storage are underway to capture excess production on weekends when the business does not operate/consume power. Australian made efficient solar panels are a perfect match to efficient, quality Australian manufacturing

*Quick Facts*
