Residential Excellence - Miglas Windows & Doors contributes to award winning design

Miglas is happy to congratulate Alexandra/ Victoria based Hedger Constructions for winning the prestigious Master Builder Award 2008 (North-East). As winner of the Best Custom Home over $500,000 Hedger proofs excellence in building.
The outstanding steel framed construction enables the building to over-hang the mountain
edge. Miglas double-glazed timber aluminium composite windows and doors combined with
building excellence, resulted in a building that far exceeds standard performance and
construction levels.
The combined effort of owner, builder and suppliers like Miglas give the project the performance and finish expected. Great views, great lifestyle, thermal efficiency and open
spaces make this home the best of its kind in 2008.
The larger fixed windows with high performance double glazing help to maintain a comfortable
temperature in the home and ensure that the larger window areas don’t become the weakest link. With 16 automated windows to the top lights, the building allows for cross ventilation and night purge which further reduces heating and cooling costs and can lower the necessity of air conditioning use.
Only the combination of a double glazed product and superior installation by the builder ensure that the building performs above average.
The Miglas Ali-Clad Suite is the brainchild of Anatol Miglas, who designed and developed the suite of
windows and doors after a trip to the U.S. in 1987. Anatol is recognised by the industry as a leader in the
evolution of windows and doors in Australia.
Miglas simply combines the energy efficiency and natural beauty of timber and the durability of aluminium as
all weather prone surfaces, to produce the best window available in today’s market.
Structurally, it has the beauty and energy efficiency of kiln dried hardwood, with powder-coated aluminium to
the exterior faces to offer a low maintenance, long life timber window. The Ali-clad window and door frame
maintains a u-value (the insulation measure of windows) consistent with a timber window. Various high
performance glazing options will offer even greater benefits.
Miglas complete range of composite windows and doors is a valued asset to every residential or commercial building project. Double-glazing, sustainable timber, low maintenance aluminium exterior in the colour of your choice, superior hardware for air tight closure and security and various accessories for automation and entry control, make all Miglas the leading Australian manufacturer that combines thermal efficiency, security and durability throughout its range.

Two more good reasons too design and build with Miglas Windows & Doors

Miglas is happy to congratulate Melbourne based Design Inc. for winning two of the prestigious Victorian Architecture Awards 2008. The RAIA Awards for Urban Design (Joseph Reed Award) and Sustainable Design were awarded at the beginning of July.

The requirement for the K2 public housing development was to provide a sustainable, energy efficient, low maintenance timber window, robust enough to meet the needs of a demanding environment. The timber was also to be sourced from sustainable managed re-growth forests.

Commercial Aluminium windows were not considered because the aluminium frames conduct the heat and cold very quickly, impacting on the effective insulation capabilities of the entire building.

However, timber windows were also a concern because of their need for high maintenance, and being predominantly a domestic window, poor performance in high-rise developments.

Miglas Windows finalises Green Star Pre-Assessment

Miglas High Performance Windows with its composite AliClad timber-aluminium double glazed frames passes product pre-assessment for Green Star Rating of buildings and can most likely contribute to add an additional Green Star to your building project.
Sustainable Design is a valuable aspect of a modern project, and a substantial part of a good investment that pays off over the lifetime of a building.
Research shows that occupants are likely to pay higher prices or rent for a building that fulfils credentials of sustainable living. It's not just a necessity - it's a life style.

The green star pre-assessment is the first step to prove that the product has sustainable credentials. For Miglas it is an easy way to show their ability to manufacture a product that achieves the performance requirements, as well as with the right choice of materials.

Miglas complete range of composite windows and doors is a value add to every residential or commercial building project. Double-glazing, sustainable timber, low maintenance aluminium exterior in the colour of your choice, superior hardware for air tight closure and security and various accessories for automation and entry control, make all Miglas the leading Australian manufacturer that combines thermal efficiency, security and durability throughout its range.

Timber vs. Aluminium - The answer is hybrid (AliClad)

A recent study undertaken by Branz found that aluminium-clad timber windows outperform other window types when tested for energy efficiency. Plus, you never have to paint the exterior which is durable against fading, twisting and ember attack and the warm beauty of the timber interior that -supplies the structural strength even in bushfire situations. Keep in mind - Your windows stay in the building for over 50 years. It is the wrong choice to compromise on quality. Comfort, life expectancy and aesthetic design has one name - Miglas.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Miglas had sustainability in mind when it introduced its Take Back program on October 1st 2007, giving customers the chance to return their second-hand windows and doors in an industry-first recycling program. Miglas estimated that over 80% of its components could be recycled, prompting the decision to offer a hassle-free recycling service to its customers.
